Importance of Sharing (Study Material)
The online student community offers wide platforms for us to gain and share knowledge among our peers. This reduces our time that would have gone in research and review of the material we found, as we know that it is already proofed by the seniors.
The deed inspires in us too, the idea of sharing the study material we receive usually during our peak study time, comprising of links for different sites, video tutorials, handwritten notes, eBooks, etc. This will of helping our fellow mates comes from within and is especially rewarding since sharing our experience has always widened our knowledge of the same topic and allows continuous growth.
But occasionally, we question ourselves:
a) Why waste our time?
b) Why bother helping a stranger?
Sometimes the fact that study material was not available for us, leads us to ponder over the above question and make a self-centered decision to not help others too. Thus, adding in the ever-expanding chain of people who don’t take initiative, even though it might help hundreds of others who are struggling like you did.
How does sharing our knowledge improve/benefit us?
Digital study material knows no boundaries, anyone can access it and learn what they want, numerous people who aren’t economically strong, find it a boon for themselves. This happens because it doesn’t matter where you are located, voluntary and free knowledge is right in front of you, simply because someone felt it was right to share the content that helped them and may help others as well.
The solution?
If in an ecosystem, where syllabus we study isn’t changed regularly, why should we bother to buy notes or costly books repetitively? Why can’t we just create a central repository of the content once and keep updating it with minor changes? It’s the most simple and efficient approach to our education. When we share our notes/sources, numerous readers evaluate it while studying from it. They might share some new information that is required but not covered in the notes and that is what keeps improving the existing source material and it shows the most recent update to everyone who accesses it.
For college students, NotesHub has been a source of study material for 2+ years now. It was started with one basic idea, ability to help ourselves or give our peers a platform where they can easily access a topic they would like to study in detail. The ever-expanding library that NotesHub currently has, is because of students who were willing to share the notes that actually helped them gain an understanding of the topic. NotesHub has allowed a channel to operate where students can share the sources they have used to study. It hosts an open upload system where anyone can share the content that they feel can make a difference to someone’s study and help develop a systematic approach towards the particular subject. Here we can share resources ranging from Handwritten Notes to eBooks, practical files, previous years question papers, which proves to be a life-saver in pressure situations for someone who likes to study a day before exams 😊.
Concluding thoughts…
We are not trying to promote the NotesHub (some might say…), but the idea and the ideology that the platform is fundamentally built on. Humans have a basic tendency to reduce redundant work through automation and other sorts, then why not have a platform to reduce the redundant work of “collecting study material” before exams!
But such platforms only work when the community is on board with the idea. NotesHub or any other platform like it cannot and will not work till the community around it doesn’t accept it.
This place has accumulated a community where students can find others who are also willing to share and help in not only in finding appropriate study material but also how to tackle various questions we encounter in our field of education. All we require is to motivate ourselves to help someone and become a part of a larger community and develop ourselves along the way.
Strive to help others because someday or another someone will do the same for you.
